Newcastle transfer news: Steve Bruce encouraged by son to make £30m move for Edouard | Football | Sport
In the summer, he could venture into the Scottish market in the pursuit of adding more firepower to the squad. Allan Saint-Maximin and Joelinton signed for the Premier League club last year, whilst Andy Carroll also rejoined after being released by West Ham United.
Meanwhile, Dwight Gayle returned from his loan at West Bromwich Albion, where he scored over 20 goals last season. Edouard would therefore be in very stiff competition if he is to establish himself as a regular starter, although Alex Bruce feels that the Scottish Premiership has been underestimated.
He added: “We’ve seen over the years players have come down south from Scotland, the likes of Henrik Larsson, Di Canio was up there at Celtic – I think the Scottish League can be a little bit disrespected in terms of quality.
“They have got some good teams, some good players up there. It would be nice to see how Edouard would do,” he added.
Newcastle take on Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday (4:30pm), as they look to capitalise on the Gunners’ poor league form so far this season, while the vastly-experienced Bruce will hope to profit from Arteta’s managerial inexperience.
