22:05 UPDATE: Everton need new centre-back
Everton must sign a new defender in order to challenge for the top six, claims former Toffees forward Pat Nevin.
“Everton are a centre-back away from being excellent,” said Nevin. ”I liked what I saw of Wolves when I watched them on TV and I liked them even more when I saw them live, when you get a chance to study them closely. I don’t see any issues with this being their second season.
“But Everton, with some consistency, can bridge the gaps. There were times last season when they played opponents off the park, other times they were horrible.
“If I was Marco Silva I’d be scouring the Italian top division for a centre-back who can come in and offer that authority they need at the back. Fabian Delph is a good signing, alongside Andre Gomes.”

19:50 UPDATE: Arsenal transfer backed
Jose Mourinho believes Arsenal are in for a treat because David Luiz will raise his game after leaving Chelsea.
“And I think we all know, probably I know a little bit better because I’ve coached him, that sometimes he makes mistakes, but he makes these mistakes especially when his concentration levels are low,” Mourinho said.
“And when you change to a new club and you have something to prove, I think it’s a good move for him.
“At this moment of his career to get this opportunity of a late move and stay in the Premier League at the highest level, for David, it’s a fantastic move.”

18:30 UPDATE: Mandzukic to Man Utd explanation
Manchester United did not sign Mario Mandzukic from Juventus because they could not agree a deal with the striker.
Mandzukic emerged as an option for United towards the end of the summer transfer window as Romelu Lukaku edged towards the exit.
However, the prospective switch failed to materialise and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was left with just the three new additions.
Tutto Mercato Web reckon Mandzukic did not swap the Allianz Stadium for Old Trafford because personal terms were not settled on.

The playmaker has been identified as the man to replace Wayne Rooney, with DC United’s talisman joining Derby in January.

16:25 UPDATE: Man Utd business questioned
Manchester United should have recruited a new striker to fill the void left behind by Romelu Lukaku’s departure.
That is the verdict of Graeme Souness, who says Marcus Rashford should not have been given the goalscoring burden.
“And I think it’s really unfair on [Rashford] at 21, or 20 last year, being asked to be the main man at Man United,” Souness said.
“The reality is, from this moment on with the transfer window gone, they’re asking Rashford at 21 to be the main striker at this football club.
“He got 10 goals I think from 33 games last year, it’s not enough for United. All the pressure is on his young shoulders.”

14:15 UPDATE: De Gea contract confirmed?
Gary Neville seemingly confirmed David de Gea has signed a contract extension at Manchester United moments after the side’s 4-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday.
Speaking from the gantry after the win, in which De Gea made seven saves, Neville said: “You’d hope with De Gea now signed and Maguire as a centre-back, Pogba, at the moment, in midfield is obviously world-class on his day, and then you’re talking about up front… Manchester United have got threats.”
De Gea has stalled on penning a new deal at Old Trafford for over a year with his current paperwork expiring in June 2020.
The club are desperate to keep De Gea, who is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world despite his errorsome 2018/19 campaign.
It has been reported that United chiefs tabled a £350,000-a-week offer to De Gea this summer, which they expect him to sign.

13:20 UPDATE: Dybala to Man Utd claim
Paulo Dybala didn’t join Manchester United because he lacked ‘the minerals’ to play for the club, according to Red Devils legend Rio Ferdinand.
“A lot of players have declined coming to Man Utd in recent years. They’ve chosen somewhere else,” Ferdinand told the Daily Star.
“But I don’t know how Dybala had the audacity to turn them down when he’s on the bench at Juventus. He needs to start playing some football.
“Maybe he’s thinking: ‘I want to be Champions League or I’ll sit on the bench. I’d rather do that than play at Man Utd.’
“Well, I’m happy he didn’t come, then because you haven’t got the right minerals that I want in a Man Utd player!”

Liverpool will consider signing a new goalkeeper on a short-term contract with Alisson set to miss six weeks of action with a calf injury.
Alisson went down late in the first half of Liverpool’s clash with Norwich on Friday evening in the Reds’ opening game of the season.

After the game, Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Alisson would miss next week’s Super Cup final with Chelsea before describing that the Brazilian felt like he was hit by something.
Second keeper Adrian came on to replace Allison, just days after the Spaniard signed for the club.
But the Liverpool Echo are reporting that the Reds may seek a short-term deal for a new keeper because Klopp doesn’t have many options in the position.
Liverpool will have to sign a free agent due to the transfer window closing on Thursday.
